Taxes and exports

contado keeps a record your tax preparer can work from. It does not give tax advice and it does not file anything.

What builds up during the year

  • Expense categories: when you log an expense you can tag it — Supplies, Car & truck, Meals, and the rest of the Schedule C list. The tag rides into your export.
  • Mileage estimate: type each client's round-trip distance once, and the app multiplies it by the visits you logged. Never GPS, never tracking.
  • Set-aside hint: the dashboard shows what a percentage of this quarter's income looks like in dollars. Information, not advice.

When it's time

  • CSV for your tax preparer: actual business income and expenses, oldest first, with categories. Your preparer opens it directly.
  • Proof of income: a printable statement of what you logged — print it or save it as a PDF.
  • Export everything: every payment, sale, client and repeat arrangement you've logged, in one file. Yours, free, always.
